SMRSMCA Newsletter – May 2014

Tuesday, June 3, 2014 @ 03:06 PM

Dear SMRSMCA Member, and Prospective Members,

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the change in our meeting date this month. We are moving the meeting to Thursday, May 29, at 6:30pm. This is a very important “Round Table Meeting” to address job safety. We know this is a hot button topic right now and your association is here to help. We will be having a

safety consultant and safety equipment manufacturer on hand to help answer questions and address those topics that directly affect our bottom line.

The Association’s website ( is undergoing some major changes. Chris Rajala leads this committee in updating our membership, current event calendar, and making improvements to the website so it will be a more useful tool for our members and the community. Great job, Chris!

Krystal Amick has been doing double service as the association secretary and treasurer. You’ve seen Krystal checking in members during association meetings, but she does a lot more. Keeping the books, taking meeting minutes, arranging the dinners, as well as numerous other duties are all examples of the excellent service she provides to us. The next time you see Krystal, be sure to let her know you appreciate all she does for our association.

April Dacas has graciously agreed to chair our membership committee. A survey is in the works, so please check your email and mail and return it promptly so the Executive Committee will know how to improve the association and better serve its members.

July will be here soon and that means it’s time for the 92nd Annual FRSA Convention. Save the date: July 10-12th. The Hyatt Regency (formerly the Peabody) is our host hotel and rooms are selling out fast. Go to for more information and make those reservations. This is sure to be another sell-out. The FRSA Expo is across the street at the Orange County Convention Center. Be sure to visit the trade show which will have all of the vendors displaying their latest materials, equipment, and services that will help you stay ahead of the competition.

Also at the convention is the affiliate council competition, and this year it’s a pitching contest. So start warming-up those arms! And if you have an ex-ball player on your roster, be sure to get him/her signed up so we can win!

If you know a fellow contractor or vendor who would make an excellent member of the SMRSMCA, please let us know. The real value of our association is in our members and we want to continue to be the best affiliate roofing association in the state. Our rich tradition and leadership is unequaled in Florida and we want to keep it that way. Thanks again to all of those who attended last month’s luncheon meeting. We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming dinner meeting!
